John Fuller caps a 50-year career with the FAA’s highest honor
FORT MYERS, Fla (July 18, 2018) – Officials with Private Jets, Inc. today announced employee John Fuller as a recent recipient of the FAA’s Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award, the most prestigious award the FAA issues to pilots.
Fuller is a pilot at the company’s Naples, Florida base.
“We’re incredibly proud of John’s accomplishment and I can’t think of anyone more deserving,” said Private Jets President Eric Wells. “John is an outstanding pilot with a stellar 50-year career and true passion for flying. We’re fortunate to have him on our team.”
The Master Pilot award is named after the Wright Brothers and recognizes individuals who have exhibited professionalism, skill, and aviation expertise for at least 50 years while piloting aircraft.
“I’m thrilled to receive this recognition and humbled to have been recommended for this honor by colleagues, fellow pilots and friends,” Fuller said. “I’ve been so fortunate to build a life doing something I love—flying, and teaching others to fly as well. It means the world to me to be recognized by my peers and friends.”
Fuller’s history with aviation started at age 6, walking through fields with his father and pacing off passes for a crop-spraying biplane for the family business, the Fuller Seed Company. He later attended the University of Illinois Institute of Aviation and took his first solo flight in 1967.
Fuller would go on to join the Illinois Air National Guard and started Air Force flight school in late 1971. He left the Guard in 1977 with a rank of captain. In civilian aviation, he managed a fixed base operation and offered flight instruction for several years before beginning his airline career in 1985 with Britt Airways.
After a series of buyouts and mergers, Britt Airways would become a part of Continental Airlines. In his 20 years of flying for airlines, Fuller piloted the 727, 737, 757, 767 and 777.
Partially retired, Fuller still flies for Oklahoma City-based Private Jets, Inc., and lives with his wife, Marian, in Florida.
“This award is especially meaningful because of the two men the award is named after,” Fuller said. “More than a century later, it’s too easy to forget what an incredible feat the Wright brothers achieved with limited resources and little formal education. They truly changed the world, and I’m proud I was able to follow them and build a great career out of a passion for flying.”
